  • Electric steam sterilisers are a real time saving piece of kit. You can usually sterilise 6 bottles at a time and the process can take as little as 6 minutes. Once your baby’s bottles and feeding things are sterilised you can store them inside, so they remain sterile for up to 24 hours.

my tommee tippee is the steam one too and mine says they stay sterile for 3 hours if you do it the steam way. But if you sterilise them the cold water way with sterilising tablets then they stay sterile for 24 hours.

Plug your steriliser back in, adding the regular volume of water for a normal cycle. Turn on and run for 5-minutes then give a final rinse. Or you could watch this quick video on how to descale your electric steam steriliser. We know it’s hard to find time, but it’s good to descale your steriliser every 4 weeks if you can.

Do not move appliance when in use. Do not let the cord hang over edge of kitchen work surface or touch hot surfaces. The contents will remain sterile for 24 hours if the steriliseris unopened.

It begins to heat up almost instantly, and the whole process takes just 5 minutes (with 3 minutes additional cooling time recommended). After use, the contents of the steriliser stay sterile for 24 hours if the lid remains on. For those who are bottle feeding or having multiple bottles in a day, this is a real positive.

After the cycle, Tommee Tippee recommend waiting five minutes before opening the steriliser. There are handles at the top of the lid for you to take it off the trays safely after the cycle.

When powered on, a heating element turns some of this water into steam within the unit. This steam thermally sterlises the bottles and after eight minutes the bottles are ready for use and remain “sterile” for 24 hours. A normal cycle is about four minutes “ramp up” and one minute “soak”. The last three minutes are to cool down.
