Could you make gas golf cart go faster?
- One way to increase the speed of a gasoline-powered EZ Go golf cart is to add an octane booster when you fill the gas tank. The cart will have more pickup and possibly gain as much as 5 mph. Another approach is to remove the throttle linkage governor on the side of the carburetor, allowing the accelerator pedal to depress farther.

There are numerous things you can do to make your golf cart go faster. Motor upgrades, controller upgrades, gear changes, battery voltage increase, etc… but the easiest way to squeak another 5-6 mph out of an otherwise stock golf cart currently running 12-14mph is to re-program the Curtis Controller with a high speed code. We will need to know the Vin#/Serial Number off of your golf cart and you will need to verify it still has the original controller in place.
Remove any extra accessories, racks, clubs or unnecessary items to reduce the weight of the cart and allow it to move faster. Step 6 Replace your tires with larger ones. This will allow the same number of revolutions per minute to cover more ground, as the larger tires will move the cart faster.
Switch the chip. Many electric carts have a chip that regulates the speed of the cart, much like a governor on gas carts. Some golf cart manufacturers, such as the E-Z-GO electric cart, offer chips that allow the cart to increase its top speed. Consult your owner's manual or company website to see if this is available for your golf cart.
