There are PIB detergents (polyisobutylene) as well as PEA polyether amine detergents that are formulated to be compatible with gasoline that contains more than 20% ethanol. Using a fuel additive that contains a higher level of one of those detergent chemistries will give you your best chance of being able to successfully use old gas.

Adding fuel stabilizer to old gas will not harm or decrease the current efficacy of your old gasoline in any manner but it will not restore your gasoline to its original state. Fuel stabilizers are designed to be used as a preventative measure against evaporation, oxidizing, and the loss of volatile gasoline vapors.

Techron Concentrate Plus is an excellent fuel additive for gasoline cars. It cleans every component that your fuel reaches, including the tank, cylinders, and fuel injectors. Unlike other Techron fuel additives, this version has a higher concentration of PEA.

Modern additives that protect older cars from ethanol are important formulations. These solutions keep the engine safe from excessive condensation, rust, and erosion. Any fuel additive for a classic car then must be ethanol-compatible. Some classic cars are designed to accept lead gasoline.

Older cars often require fuel stabilizers that are compatible with ethanol fuels and dry gas with an isopropyl alcohol base. Many fuel additives for older cars are designed to protect the engine components from the ethanol that exists in modern gasoline. The additives protect the engine from the effects of erosion, rust and excessive condensation.

Empty the fuel, and refill 1/4 tank with 4oz and let it run as long as possible. Repeat until you are fustrated then you move on. If the carb or lines are gunked, you will probably need to yank the carb, replace hoses, and clean or replace the carb. For storage I would recommend adding Star Tron and a little Seafoam and then run the machine dry.
