Top best answers to the question «Do all electric cars have automatic transmission»
Are all electric cars automatic? Most electric cars are automatic, and likely will be in the future. This is because an electric car doesn't require a clutch due to its inability to stall like a petrol or diesel vehicle. Therefore, adding a clutch and various gears might not make much sense.

I mean, I did (: The automatic transmission has evolved as much, if not more than internal combustion engines have over the last few decades. We have smart transmissions with dry and wet clutches to engage and disengage drive trains when idling and/or decelerating (obviously counter intuitive for regeneration on an EV), which dramatically increases efficiency.
Not all hybrids have automatic transmission. The first generation Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid, and Honda CR-Z were available with manual transmissions. For an interesting video tour of a Gen 1 Insight see: This Honda Gets 61 Miles Per Gallon.
Do electric cars have transmissions? “A significant difference between conventional vehicles and EVs is the drivetrain. Simply put, the majority of EVs do not have multi-speed transmissions. Instead, a single-speed transmission regulates the electric motor.”
Well the reason why electric cars don’t have transmissions is because electric cars have electric motors. Electric motors deliver power torque very differently than a combustion engine and frankly they don’t need so much of crutch which is really all a transmission is.
