You can run a 4 stroke motor with fuel youve mixed for a 2 stroke. You may have oil smoke from the exhaust or foul plugs over some time, but it wont hurt the engine. You cannot run diesel fuel in a gas engine or vice versa either.

I'm certain anyone can use 50:1 in their 4 stroke engines on an ocassional basis with no problem. In fact, the 4 stroke engine will pollute less burning 50:1 than a 2 stroke using the same fuel. This is because the valve system on a 4 stroke provides more complete burning. You better never run 2 stroke on pure gas, though...

A: Oil is added to 2-stroke fuel for applications such as dirt bikes because the fuel doubles as a lubricant for the engine. A 4-stroke engine can burn that fuel, but it can cause issues. It can...

I've burned off old gas and even 2-cycle in a 4-cycle motor. Some tips I've found to help with this. Buy some pre-mix stabilized 4-cycle gas (sold in home improvement stores next to the 2-cycle pre-mix). It typically has better detergents than pump gas and can help you get a bad motor started again; Clean your spark plug.

Usually when people put their old premix into a 4 stroke and it smokes is because the gas is old, and the more volatile components of the gasoline have evaporated away leaving the oiler, smokier components. If it doesn't foul the plug in a 2 stroke, it won't foul the plug in a 4 stroke. posted by gjc at 11:30 PM on February 29, 2008

Consider this. Lots of old cars and trucks with fuel injected engines run for years burning as much or more oil because they have worn piston rings, or leaking valve seals, than is usually added to two stroke fuel mix. I’m a farmer and a world cla...

Theres no such thing as 2 stroke fuel. A 2 stroke engine uses regular gasoline to which you add a small amount of oil. You can run a 4 stroke motor with fuel youve mixed for a 2 stroke. You may have oil smoke from the exhaust or foul plugs over some time, but it wont hurt the engine.

Because 2-stroke engines are designed to run at a higher RPM, they also tend to wear out faster; a 4-stroke engine is generally more durable. That being said, 2-stroke engines are more powerful. Two-stroke engines are a much simpler design, making them easier to fix.
